BIOGRAPHY

Menashe Kadishman is an Israeli sculptor and painter known for his colorful paintings of sheep and large-scale metal sculptures. His work was heavily influenced by his experiences as a shepherd on a kibbutz, which informed the sheep motif found throughout his work. Kadishman's art was a unique combination of Minimalism, Conceptual Art, and Neo-Expressionism, often described as "high-culture kitsch" by art critic Donald Kuspit. His most iconic works were inspired by the merging of man and his environment, the meeting of the industrial and the organic, and the symbolic significance of the ram in biblical storytelling. Kadishman's art is now part of the collections of the Storm King Art Center in Mountainville, NY, the Jewish Museum in New York, the Nasher Sculpture Center in Dallas, and the Tel Aviv Museum of Art, among others.
