Shay Kun
Biography:
Turning the tradition of landscape painting on its head, Shay Kun paints pristine natural settings that serve as backdrops for the antics of an odd assortment of people, including acrobats, swimmers, and soldiers. In Delirium (2009), for example, Kun depicts eight spandex-clad subjects, holding what looks like a curious yoga pose, in front of a crystal-clear mountain lake under a sky filled with cartoonish explosions. In his works, he positions humans as intruders on our own planet, oblivious to the damage we inflict upon nature.
